History

The Siegert family has been producing bakers and millers since 1776. In 1891, Carl Siegert’s great grandfather established a bakery and confectionery in Harmelen. Since 1991, the company has borne the distinguished title Purveyor to the Royal Household of the Netherlands.
In 1997, Carl Siegert took over the company from his father and embarked in a new direction. He focused on producing bread for the hotel and catering industry. In 2004, the company relocated to a state-of-the-art bakery on the outskirts of the village. Here, tradition and technology go hand in hand.

The oven is fired and the dough has been kneaded; it is resting between two dough cutters that have been placed at the outer edges of the worktop. My great grandfather, baker Carl Albert Siegert, takes a short nap during the first lengthy proofing process. When the dough has risen sufficiently the cutters clatter to the ground. Wake up: time to get back to work! That was how things were around the year 1900.
